Getting To Richmond
Richmond International Airport (RIC) is approximately ten miles from the VCU campus and offers nine major air carriers. A new airport shuttle service offered through Virginia AirLink provides shared door-to-door transportation to and from Richmond International Airport (RIC). Rides are scheduled in advance with flight monitoring to ensure ride availability at touchdown. Additional transit options are available for National Airport (DCA), Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI), and Dulles Airport (IAD) through Amtrak train routes to Washington DC Union Station with connections regularly to Richmond's two Amtrak stations, the Main Street Station (RVM) and Staples Mill Road Station (RVR). Traditional rideshare services through Uber and Lyft are also easily accessible to and from RIC.
Amtrak, the national rail operator, offers Richmond two rail stations, the downtown Main Street Station (RVM) and Staples Mill Road Station (RVR). Amtrak is well-connected on the Northeast Corridor with frequent service to and from the RVR and RVM stations. Megabus offers city-to-city bus tickets. For connection with air travel, a direct route from Washington Union Station to Richmond Main Street Station is available. If you drive to Richmond, please note that street parking around the VCU campus is limited to one to three-hour parking time limits. The GRTC network provides free bus services for the entire Richmond region, including access to landmarks, historical sites, shopping malls, parks, arts, restaurants, community resources, and more. GRTC Pulse runs every 10 or 20 minutes during peak and off-peak hours.
Lyft's ride-share service is on-demand and can be scheduled up to seven days in advance. Users must have access to a smartphone to use this service.
